Secondary developments

The Port of Albany is a major infrastructure component of the Great Southern economy, currently under-going significant expansion for export commodities. As a maritime event, the re-enactment would highlight the function of the Port in the region, promote world identification of the potential the Port has as a gateway to Western Australia and Australia, and stimulate economic development. Specifically, the Development Committee has focussed at this time on the Re-enactment Event, but discussion has been given to the potential for an international Military Tattoo, an Airshow and a Combined Forces Military Exercise in the Great Southern Region, featuring the Stirling Range, D’Entrecasteaux, Fitzgerald River and South Coast Marine National Parks.

Where to from here

The project has been prepared under the guidance of a locally formed development committee, and presented to the Local, State and Federal Governments, NGOs & Private Enterprise, with an exceptional level of positive response to date. Various projects now form part of the proposed National Commemoration Strategy for Albany Anzac 2014-18. In 1998 & 2003, the ‘event and strategy’ were referred to one hundred of Australia’s top business corporations and to all foreign diplomatic missions to Australia for information on the range of participation activities. To progress now requires a commitment from government and corporate sponsors to fund the activities which largely rests with the adoption of the Rainbow 2000© Project – a question by referendum of the Great Southern people.

The Albany City Council has resolved to make the Albany Anzac Festival an ICON event in the calendar year, and with two years yet to plan for the hundred year celebration in 2014, there is tremendous scope for tourism development. The State Government of Western Australia has committed $125 million to the Albany Waterfront, Entertainment & Convention Centre project all of which should promote CBD property investment, the dive wreck former HMAS Perth, the Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound.

The Commonwealth of Australia has pledged at least $6.5 million to the Albany Anzac Interpretive Centre project and has yet to confirm  the Albany Anzac Re-enactment Project as a matter of National Environmental Significance (NES – Cultural Heritage) including participation by foreign naval powers. International Governments are invited to register their interest to participate at any time, and trade delegations / briefings on investment opportunities through the Australian Trade Commission can be arranged as required. And remember - Albany Bicentennial 2026-27© – the bicentennial celebration of European settlement in WA. For more information, down load these files via WinZip or Adobe PDF.
